DMC Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital Receives an “A” Rating for Patient Safety in National Hospital Evaluation

(Commerce, MI—Dec. 5, 2012)  DMC Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital was honored with an “A” Hospital Safety Score℠ by the Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit organization of large employers dedicate to improving hospital performance.  The “A” rating, on a scale of “A” to “F,” was awarded in the latest update to the Hospital Safety Score℠, which assesses U.S. hospitals on preventable medical errors, injuries, accidents, and infections.  This evaluation is compiled under the guidance of the nation’s leading experts on patient safety and is designed to provide the public with information they can use to obtain high quality health care.

“We are very pleased that Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital has received an ‘A’ safety grade  for the second time, which reflects our continuing efforts to provide the safest, high quality care that our patients deserve.  This success is due to the outstanding teamwork of our staff,” said Lynn Torossian, hospital president.

The Hospital Safety Score℠ uses 26 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to create a single score representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe by preventing errors and complications.  Data is compiled on how often hospitals follow recommended treatments, such as administration of antibiotics prior to surgery;  the  environment of care including prevention of  patients’ falls and pressure ulcers; and outcomes of treatment.  Individual hospital scores are available at www.hospitalsafetyscore.org.
