DMC Sinai-Grace Names West Bloomfield Resident Chief of Psychiatry

DETROIT – DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital is proud to announce the promotion of Gerald A. Shiener, M.D to chief of psychiatry.

During his 44 years at Sinai-Grace, Dr. Shiener has proved his dedication and commitment to both patients and staff. He first came on board in 1969 as a nurse’s aid, and he most recently served as the chief of consultation and liaison psychiatry.

“His direct, honest and considerate communication when it comes to doing the right thing for the institution, patient care, support of staff or teaching and training is one of his hallmarks,” said Dr. Alireza Amirsadri, who served as interim chief at SGH prior to Shiener’s appointment. “He has excellent administrative skills and I have no doubt that he will be one of the best chiefs not only at Sinai-Grace but throughout the DMC system.”

As chief, Dr. Shiener will continue to expand and improve the performance and quality of the Sinai-Grace psychiatry department. In addition, Dr. Shiener also serves as an assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences at Wayne State University, and is excited to step into his new role at Sinai-Grace.

“The appointment to a leadership position means a lot to me, and I hope to continue in the tradition of excellence in patient care, education and service that has characterized the department,” Dr. Shiener, of West Bloomfield, said.
