DSO Announces Concert at Planterra

(DETROIT, November 14, 2011) — As a part of its visionary Neighborhood Residency Initiative (NRI), the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) is announcing a special Neighborhood Chamber Recital in West Bloomfield.

Last month, the DSO unveiled long-term performance and education residencies across greater Detroit’s metropolitan region, the first major America symphony orchestra to do so.  The NRI will expand the Orchestra’s existing presence in these communities through these scheduled chamber music appearances, the Neighborhood Concert Series in six metro Detroit cities, as well as educational partnerships, and other special programming.

“An Elegant Evening with Mozart and Brahms”

Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m., warm up in Planterra Conservatory’s serene winter garden and enjoy rich chamber works of Mozart and Brahms performed by the DSO String Quintet. Before or after the performance, take some time to shop for all your winter flora needs and the host, Planterra, will generously donate 15 percent of all sales for the evening back to the DSO’s Annual Fund. Free valet, cash bar.

Tickets to this Neighborhood Chamber Recitals are just $15 ($10 for children under 18 and students) and may be purchased at the Max M. Fisher Music Center box office (3711 Woodward Ave., Detroit); by calling (313) 576-5111; or online at dso.org/neighborhood. Students must show their student ID at the time of purchase at the box office or upon retrieval at Will Call.

I love the idea of having the DSO come to the neighborhoods. It is so much more enticing to go when it is convenient.
