Annual charity run raises more than $9,200 and feeds 460 families this holiday season!
Outrun Hunger charity 5k features partnership between Grace Church, Hospitality House and Open Door Outreach Center to assist Lakes Region families in need of food at Thanksgiving
and Christmas.
Commerce Township, MI – Grace Church of Commerce and White Lake sponsored their second annual Outrun Hunger 5k run/walk and 1 mile kids fun run. The event was held on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 10 a.m. on the scenic Commerce Commons Pathway, located at the Commerce Township Hall. 100% of the proceeds from the event are being distributed through the Hospitality House of Walled Lake and the Open Door Outreach Center of Waterford to assist families in need of food this holiday season.
“In our inaugural event last year we raised $7,400 and fed 296 families. In a stagnant economy we hoped to do at least as well this year. We know the reductions of welfare services in the state are still adversely affecting many people, so the contributions help immensely — $20 feeds a family of four a hot holiday meal. Last year our partner organizations served 1,345 families during the holidays and the need is growing every year. I’m happy to say that this year we will be able to feed 460 families after raising more than $9,200. We are grateful to our 300 participants, 80 volunteers and 45 donors. They made it happen! For us the goal is the same each year – to be a catalyst for ‘outrunning hunger’ in the Lakes Region of Southeast Michigan,” said Kari Cotter, organizer of the Outrun Hunger event.
