Rizzo Environmental Services Takes Over West Bloomfield Waste Collection

(Source: West Bloomfield Twp.)

Starting November 12, 2012, Rizzo Environmental Services will be providing all waste and recycling service within the township.  There will no change in service levels, costs or collection days.  The only difference noticed will be the color of, and the name on, the garbage and recycling trucks.

Residents will continue to receive unlimited trash, recycling and yard waste collection and disposal as well as unlimited bulk item collection (i.e. furniture and appliances).  Waste and recycling collection days remain the same; that is, if your trash and recycling was collected Monday it will still be collected on Monday.

Residents that have pre-paid for service with Richfield will not be required to pay again upon the reassignment of the contract as Rizzo Environmental Services has payment and account records.

Rizzo Environmental Services will also continue to provide the necessary funding for the two Household Hazardous Waste Events.  Contract provisions such as a senior citizen discount of $1 per month, the option to stop service for extended absences/vacations at no cost and door service for residents that are unable to place trash and recycling at the street curb for collection are also still available.

As you may have read or heard, Richfield Equities, LLC our single waste and recycling hauler has been in bankruptcy proceeding.  As part of the restructuring of the company, the West Bloomfield contract was acquired by the recently recapitalized Rizzo Environmental Services.  Rizzo Environmental Services has a solid service record and a reputation as being a high quality company focused on customer service.  Rizzo Environmental Services has municipal contracts with Bloomfield Township, Clinton Township and Shelby Township.

The current contract expires March 30, 2015 and all terms and conditions will be explicitly honored by Rizzo Environmental Services.

Lastly, residents will continue to have full access to the Rewards for Recycling Program and their existing account.  Rewards for Recycling provides residents with valuable coupons and gift cards to local stores and shops for placing recycling materials at the curb.  Over the last year, this program has increased participation by 70% and increased collected volumes by 250%.

Hope their customer service is better. Richfield was awful to deal with. Had multiple issues with them in the year since we moved here. No wonder they are going bankrupt.

Rachel: Development services director Marshall Labadie sent me this release. In the Oct. 17 Patch story regarding the switch to Rizzo, he was quoted saying: "They have a good reputation in the industry and have been for quite some time."

Rizzo Environmental....make note that recyclables that I am putting out to the curb are being put into your landfill truck. These recyclables are clearly items put to the street to be recycled. I plan to pass this information on to the Highland Twp. office. We here in Highland are sensitive to recycling as there was talk of putting an Oakland Cnty landfill in our community, north of M59, approximately 25 years ago.
