Say "Goodbye" To The Maple Theater With Secret Cinema
As the new operators of The Maple Theater enter the final planning stages of renovations, the venue is hosting "Secret Cinema" - a classic film series with a twist: you won't know which film you're seeing until the lights go down.
For this parting event, the theater is giving fans a chance to revel in the past before saying their goodbyes by presenting titles selected from the AFI's top 100 list.
Tickets are just $5 and include complimentary popcorn.
Monday night, brave cinephiles were treated to Mike Nichol's 1967 bittersweet bildungsroman, "The Graduate". Audience size more than doubled Tuesday evening for Francis Ford Coppola's sweeping masterwork, "The Godfather". Wednesday saw similar attendance for Orson Welles' iconic tour de force, "Citizen Kane". Facebook fan Jody Brooks called the evening "a joy... So much richer than on the smaller screen."
The series continues all week, culminating with introductions by former Maple manager Ruth Daniels on Saturday night and new owner Jon Goldstein for Sunday's finale.
To add a twist to this already complicated plot, The Maple will be posting and linking to "hints" scattered across their social media accounts on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
The festivites continue tonight with a classic portrayal of war and the fools it makes of men. For those looking to spoil the surprise, here's a hint: the film's cinematographer was so talented, he was able to photograph something you can't even see.
If you can't make it to the show, be sure to check back with Bloomfield Patch tomorrow to see what you missed.
