Arrests at Whole Foods; Sheds Near Outback Targeted
The following information was provided by the West Bloomfield Township Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.
West Bloomfield Township Police Department reports from May 1-7 included 80 alarms, 24 crashes and 14 arrests. Among the highlights:
2 arrested at Whole Foods in shoplifting incident
Prosecutors believe that a Detroit woman with six prior convictions for retail fraud suspected of shoplifting at Whole Foods Market last Sunday may have been carrying numerous other stolen items with an accomplice, according to Lt. Tim Diamond.
Loss prevention officers witnessed a person later identified as the 42-year-old Detroit woman take two packages of meat around 5:45 p.m. before an altercation ensued, Diamond said. After the woman and her accomplice, a 31-year-old Detroit woman, were confronted, they struck the officer and ran to the second woman's vehicle in the parking lot and locked themselves inside, Diamond said.
While investigating the vehicle later, officers found items totaling just more than $100 suspected to have been taken during numerous similar incidents recently, Diamond said.
Both were arrested and released that day. Prosecutors are not seeking charges against the accomplice, but they are investigating a charge of second-degree retail fraud for the suspect.
Sheds near Outback Steakhouse targeted
Surveillance video captured an attempted breaking-and-entering incident outside Outback Steakhouse overnight May 4-5, Diamond reported.
An unknown number of people in a dark-colored minivan were seen climbing out near two sheds directly to the north of the restaurant in Sugar Tree Square where, according to Diamond, "nothing of value is being stored."
The people tried to get into the sheds by damaging the locks but were unsuccessful and left immediately afterward, Diamond said.
