Car Break-Ins on the Rise, West Bloomfield Police Say

The following information was provided by the West Bloomfield Township Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

West Bloomfield Township Police Department report highlights for April 10-17 include:

Tools taken during truck break-in

Someone broke into a 2008 Chevy Silverado parked in a driveway on the 4300 block of Green Lake Road overnight April 12 and stole $2,600 worth of tools and electronic equipment, according to Lt. Tim Diamond.

The West Bloomfield resident who owns the pickup claimed it had been locked, but the truck wasn't damaged during the break-in, Diamond said.

Diamond said more thieves are likely to be operating at night as the weather gets warmer. "It's one of our biggest problems, and it's all over town," he said.

Company car stolen from driveway

A West Bloomfield resident on the 2400 block of Square Lake Road reported that a car had been stolen from her driveway overnight April 12, according to Diamond.

The 2011 Mitsubishi Expo Sport was a rental vehicle from the company she works for and there were no signs of forced entry, Diamond reported. The victim told police she had left the keys in the car and was unsure if the doors were locked.

Prisoners hospitalized after accident

A West Bloomfield Police officer driving from 48th District Court to Oakland County Jail with two arrested men was involved in an accident April 11, according to Diamond.

The rear-end accident at a stoplight on Telegraph Road at Huron Street about 3 p.m. was the fault of a 21-year-old from Waterford, Diamond said. The prisoners were hospitalized with back and neck pain but not seriously injured, Diamond said. The police officer was treated for minor injuries and is back on the job.
