My favorite place to camp is the D. H. Day Campground in Northern Michigan right by Sleeping Bear Sand dunes. The campground is connected to the beach of Lake Michigan and the views are spectacular. The campground it's self is rustic, no electricity or showers. It's such a peaceful place.

Silver lake State park is great! The view is pretty, and there is a great beach. The sand dunes are fun for climbing, or 4 wheeling, and there is a lot to do for families! Or you can just relax at your site. The little town has ice cream shops and fun things to do especially if the weather isn't great.

If I remember correctly, isn't Silver Lake a bit south of Ludington? I remember going on dune rides there as a kid.

I grew up going to Silver Lake as my Grandparents had a cottage on Upper Silver Lake. This area is a fantastic place for families and hasn't changed much in the last 20 years. You can actually still walk the streets after dark and be safe. Most direct route is I96 West to US 31 North. The Hart/Mears area is about 15 minutes south of Pentwater. If memory serves, about 4 hours drive from Hartland.

We are a family of 6 and tent camp and are in desperate need of a camper. Some of our most fond memories are from camping. One of our favorite places to go is Yogi Bear Parks in Indiana. The kids have a blast there! We also like to go to the state parks. They are very clean and the people there have been very nice. We are looking foward to another summer spent camping with our family.

My family always camps in Ludington, St. Ignace and, more recently, a bit north of Port Huron, where I had lived for a few years. They still tow a 1977 AMF Skamper with tasteful (for that era) brown, orange and yellow accents. I should gently nudge them toward getting something newer.

One hidden treasure for camping in Michigan is Muskellonge State Park, near Newberry in the UP. This park is located between Muskellonge Lake and Lake Superior, offering the best of smaller local lake and the big Gitchee-gumee. You can spend time searching the Lake Superior beach for agates, or fish in Muskellonge Lake, or head a bit West to take in Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Grand Marais isn't far either, nor is Whitefish Point and the wonderful Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum. Love this place, hope to go back to it this summer.

Absolutely favorite campground is Ludington State Park. There are three areas for tent and RV camping - about 500 sites total. Excellent hiking, fishing, and relaxation! Hamlin Lake is great for power sports and kayakers alike. Then there is a little lake known as Lake Michigan! Even better: you can take your favorite floatation device - or several and create a floatilla - and spend over an hour and a half just floating from Hamlin Lake to Lake Michigan - excellent, excellent, excellent! If you go, check out the boardwalk and the nature-island to see more moss species than you can shake a walking stick at! But...watch out for those racoons - they are sneaky!

Love it, Denise! I go there every summer. Are you a fan of Beechwood, Cedar or Pines campground? Or do you go all-in and do the Jack Pine rustic sites? My family always camped Beechwood but last summer we did Pines (I was only able to go for the weekend, though) and I actually liked it quite a bit.

Our favorite is Muskegon State Park ~ Lake Michigan Campground. Every January I make 8 site reservations for the end of July at one of the Michigan State Parks for our group. We all went to college together and now live scattered all over the state so this is our week of communal living with our families. The kids (age 3-15) have all grown up together and we all look forward to this every year. Muskegon has been our favorite so far. We love the sandy Lake Michigan beach and with so many kids in the group (16 kids/14 adults) Michigan's Adventure is a fun day out.

Port Crescent State Park is the best within a short drive. Since it's at the tip of the thumb, you can see the sun both rise and set over the water. It also has dunes and a great beach. It's short bike ride into Port Austin, and the area is good for kayaking. If you only want a short walk, there is a ice cream place right next to the campground.

Our favorite place to camp is the Holly State Recreation Area in Holly, off of Grange Hall Road. My family has been going there since as long as I can remember (mid-70's as I am 41 now). It is great to be able to show your children the places that you camped as a child (spending 2 weeks every summer in our Apache) and see the changes. It is also neat to be able to have a different perspective of how areas are laid out and how they seem a little smaller now as an adult. I hope to help build my children's memories much like my parents did the same for me.

Our favorite place to camp is East Jordan Campground. It is right in downtown East Jordan, so you can walk to the nearby stores and the campgroud has it own beach that is a 2-3 mintue walk from each of the camp sites. The campground is clean with great bathrooms, full hook ups, can cable tv. Also it is a quick drive away from Charlevoix area.

We love the Petoskey KOA, in Petoskey, MIchigan. It is rated one of the top 100 campgrounds in the country! We've been camping since 1995, when we rented our first pop-up camper and have been through the gamut of all types of RVs from pop-ups to a large, 38' motor home, but we always return to our favorite spot, Petoskey. The campground is a resort with all amenities; pool, hot tub, clubhouse, plenty of activities for children and adults alike. The Rose family are the nicest people you'd ever want to meet. We love Petoskey so much that we try to go up there at least 3 times per year, spring, summer and fall, when they have their autumn harvest weekend. It's a fabulous place to camp!

Our favorite place to camp is Groveland Oaks County Park in Holly. We love to go for the Fourth of July and watch the great show over the Lake and love all the activities for the kids. The kids enjoy the water slide and love to play in the stream too.

We've camped there also and it is great for families and if you need group sites, it has several. The only down fall is they only take limited reservations unless you are a group. It's first come first serve and you wait in a long line to get in sometimes. So if you are one that can't get away early, you may have issues. Otherwise, we had a fantastic time.

Camping ranks #1 as a positive family activity strengthening relationships and building positive memories. We've camped for many years, first with a tent, then a pop-up, then RV and now back to a tent. I absolutely love camping at Independence Oaks group campground. Biking, hiking, swimming, fishing, boating & a nature center are all available. With enough interest, we could begin a Clawson Campers group!

I would have to say its Holly Rec Area! We started going there about 10 years ago. The sites are clean the staff is friendly and the things the area has to offer are wonderful. We go every year, twice! Although its an hour drive its well worth it!

Our family's favorite place in Michigan to camp and vacation is at Higgins Lake. I have been going there with my family since I was a little girl so I guess that makes it 50 years now. I have stayed in tents, cabins, and pop-ups, but now my husband and I are ready to purchase a travel trailer. I can't think of a better place to have our first camping experience in our new RV. That is why we are coming to our first RV show ever in Novi.

My family loves to camp at KOA campgrounds, and our favorite one so far is the one in Petosky. We went there twice last year and plan to go again this year. The staff there is wonderful and they have lots of activities for kids and adults. We love camping with our familiy, it gives us a lot of quality time to spend together and is so much cheaper than staying in hotels!

I have 2 Favs !!
1st .. Lumberman's Monument overlooking the Au Sable river in East Tawas ... high view down ... Also within a short walk is a sandy beach on about a 45 degree angle & a 100 yards long where logs used to be rolled down to transport to sawmills.
2nd for me is Bruin Lake in Pickney ... State Of Michigan camping site with some pads right on the lake edge ... I brought a boat and just walked about 60 feet from camp to boat .. and away I go.

I would love to win these tickets, I sold my camper two years ago due to the economy and have regretted it every since. Of course the first person to call showed up with cash and bought it. I have been wanting another one every since. Tents are not my thing.
