Jalen Rose Arrested on Impaired Driving Charge in West Bloomfield

Former NBA player and U-M star was arrested earlier this month on suspicion of impaired driving after his car overturned.

Former NBA and U-M Fab Five standout Jalen Rose was arrested in West Bloomfield earlier this month on suspicion of impaired driving.

Rose, 38, originally of Detroit, was arrested around 2 a.m. March 11,  Lt. Tim Diamond said Wednesday. Rose was accused of operating a vehicle while impaired after his white Cadillac Escalade slid off Walnut Lake Road west of Middlebelt Road and overturned.

An off-duty Troy Police officer stopped to assist. Neither Rose nor his passengers were injured, Diamond said. Rose opted to take a blood test at in West Bloomfield instead of a Breathalyzer at the scene. The test showed a 0.12 blood alcohol content level – above the 0.08 legal limit – and Rose was issued a citation, Diamond said.

Rose played 13 years in the NBA, reaching the finals with Indiana in 2000. He was also part of the University of Michigan’s famous Fab Five lineup, which reached the NCAA title game in 1992 and 1993. Rose was part of a recent ESPN documentary on the Fab Five, which aired this month.
