A Taylor man faces felony retail fraud charges for allegedly stealing dozens of baby formula containers from Kroger, police said.

Toby Moskal, 28, was charged with one count of first-degree retail fraud in 48th District Court late last week, and remained in the Oakland County Jail Friday morning on $30,000 bond, jail records show.

Officers with the West Bloomfield Township Police Department arrested him on Feb. 12 after he was caught by store security trying to leave with 38 cans of baby formula, Lt. Tim Diamond said. Reports allege that Moskal filled a garbage bag with the formula containers and covered that up with other merchandise in a shopping cart before he tried to leave.

Diamond said Moskal admitted to doing this before, and told officers he sold the formula, valued by the store at $609, to party stores in Detroit in order to feed a drug habit. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for next week.

Malicious Destruction of Property

• The owner of a vehicle parked in the 5000 block of Applewood told police his car was egged sometime between noon on Feb 16 and 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 17. No suspect information was available.
• A resident of the 6000 block of Wood Pond reported that the tail lights to their SUV were smashed out sometime overnight between Feb. 16 and Feb. 17. The vehicle was parked in the driveway. Damage was estimated at $600 and the incident remains under investigation.
• Residents in the 4000 block of Pine Village reported that their mailboxes were struck and destroyed by an unknown object. The damage occurred sometime between Feb. 9 through Feb. 11, reports said.

Larceny from Auto

• A resident in the 7000 block of Honeysuckle reported that items in his vehicle were moved around while it was parked in the driveway overnight between Feb. 13 and Feb. 14, police reports said. The vehicle was unlocked. Nothing appeared to be stolen.
• A resident in the 7000 block of Lilac Court reported someone entered an unlocked vehicle while it was parked in the driveway overnight between Feb. 13 and Feb. 14, police reports said. Nothing was reported stolen.

Lt. Tim Diamond said both incidents occurred in the same subdivision and are likely related, but no suspect information was available.
