Police: Man Stole from Jewish Community Center Raffle
The following information was provided by the West Bloomfield Township Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.
A man was arrested Monday after police say he was caught on camera stealing cash from a table for a raffle set up at the Jewish Community Center.
According to West Bloomfield Police Lt. Tim Diamond, the man, 40, from Southfield, denied the allegations from the incident — that he took $50 as the JCC employee working at the table was distracted.
Diamond continued that the man had been there to use the fitness center when he struck up a conversation with the employee and left soon after the theft allegedly took place. When the man came back to the fitness center, he was recognized, and police were called, Diamond said.
The man was released pending a warrant on charges of larceny.
School windows broken
Police are investigating a report that windows at the closed Pine Lake Elementary School building were broken by vandals.
Diamond said 21 windows were found broken by brick pavers which could easily be found on school grounds. He continued that the incident, reported by a maintenance employee, could have taken place any time between June 21 and July 1.
Police have no suspects.
Shoplifting arrest at Whole Foods
A woman was arrested June 30 after a loss prevention officer reported seeing her stealing beauty products from Whole Foods Market.
According to Diamond, the woman, 42, from Southfield, was seen placing a $55 container of face cream in her purse amid other items before trying to check out without paying for it.
The woman was given a citation for retail fraud and released on $100 bond.
Drunken driving arrest
A 28-year-old West Bloomfield man faces a charge of drunken driving, after his vehicle was stopped for speeding at Northwestern and 13 Mile Roads early Monday morning.
According to the report, a Farmington Hills Police Department officer who was part of a detail watching for impaired drivers clocked the vehicle at 59 miles per hour in a 40-mile-per-hour zone. The officer noticed the odor of alcohol and liquor packaging in the vehicle.
A preliminary breath test showed the driver's blood alcohol level was .129, which is more than the .08 legal limit.
