Police: Mother Failed Breathalyzer After Taking Child to Hospital

Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction

West Bloomfield Township Police Department reports from Dec. 4-10 included 56 alarms, 57 crashes and 11 arrests. Among the highlights:

Mother failed Breathalyzer after taking child to hospital

Diamond said that a 48-year-old West Bloomfield mother was arrested after driving her three-year-old child to the hospital while under the influence of alcohol.

The woman told Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital staff that she had brought her child to the hospital with stomach issues, however, upon arrival, staff suspected her to be under the influence, Diamond said. Reporting officers said that she failed field sobriety tests as well as a Breathalyzer test.

She was arrested for driving while impaired and child endangerment, a one-year misdemeanor, Diamond added, and she awaits arraignment.

Known suspect sought in larceny case

A 72-year-old and 62-year-old couple moving out of West Bloomfield told police Dec. 7 that a man who had been hired to help them stole thousands of dollars worth of jewelry and cash, Diamond said.

The incident, which occurred on Nov. 29, resulted in six pieces of jewelry worth $2,200 combined and $57 in cash taken. The couple told police that they had hired a man who had done painting for them previously prior to their planned move to Southfield, Diamond said. That man brought a friend to help, Diamond continued, who is believed to be the suspect.
