Should Snyder Sign Bill Allowing Concealed Weapons in Schools?
On Friday, a gunman killed at least 27 at a school in Newtown, CT. Meanwhile in Michigan, Gov. Snyder has a bill on his desk that would allow some concealed guns in schools. What do you think?
Should Michigan's governor sign a bill on is desk that would allow concealed weapons in former no-gun zones, like schools?
The question is timely for two reasons:
- Under legislation that passed the House and Senate in Michigan this week, gun owners with concealed weapon permits could carry a gun into schools, daycares, hospitals or public arenas if they get extra training. The bill is awaiting Gov. Rick Snyder's signature, according to MLive.
- And on Friday, a gunman opened fire in a school in Newtown, CT, killing at least 27 died in a shooting an an elementary school, including 18 children.
What do you think of the legislation? Should the governor sign it? Answer our poll and tell us in comments.

Anyone can bring a gun into a school. The difference is only people who don't follow the laws will bring them to a school where they are not allowed. So the people who are law abiding citizens and follow the rules by leaving their guns at home have no defense when a lunatic like this decides to go on a shooting spree.
People, let's not turn this tragedy in Connecticut into a gun issue. Although after situations like this it always does.

So right. If a good citizen like you or me were working in that school and could reach your gun from your gun safe, how many children could have been saved?

What next ? We need guns allowed in schools and churches so we can have more news stories such as today? Giving people and kids free for all with guns now? Is this governor insane or what?

Nancy, I think there will be evil, crazy, mentally ill people who will do things like this. We can't have more security--voters have already told us we can't spend more money on schools--we've privatized bus drivers and custodial staff to save money. Where do you think the money for safety and security for our children will come from? Are you willing to hire more seasoned security in our schools? No, you're not. You already voted on that.
If a sane, reasonable teacher, principal, or any other staff could be carrying in Connecticut , how many children could have been saved? I would suggest extra training and all sorts of steps to be in place to allow some one to 'carry' in a school but I think it's necessary.
Sad but true.
