Superintendent Search Interviews to be Held
West Bloomfield School Board to host candidates over two days this weekend.
The search for the West Bloomfield School District's new superintendent should become a lot clearer after this weekend.
The Board of Education announced Tuesday that interviews would be held at the Administrative and Community Services center building at 8 a.m. Friday and Saturday in order to find a replacement for the retiring JoAnn Andrees.
Information about the number of candidates being interviewed and who they are will be available later in the week, said district officials.
The interviews are part of a monthslong search process the district has undertaken in order to find a new superintendent. In March, the board held a special board meeting in order to narrow down search criteria with firm Ray & Associates and established the incoming superintendent's annual salary at approximately $190,000.
The firm also established that the new superintendent will:
- demonstrate strong leadership skills in previous positions.
- be able to delegate authority appropriately while maintaining accountability.
- have experience in the management of district resources and knowledge of sound fiscal procedures.
Due to the need to schedule the interviews, check the district's website to verify that the meeting times have not changed.
Friday, May 4
- 8 a.m.: Public comment
- 8:30 a.m.: Board discussion
- 9-11 a.m.: First candidate
- 11 a.m.-12 noon: Lunch
- 12 noon-2 p.m.: Second candidate
- 2:30-4:30 p.m.: Third candidate
Saturday, May 5
- 8 a.m.: Public comment
- 8:30-10:30 a.m.: Fourth candidate
- 11 a.m.: Discussion

Great question. What's important for the Community is that outsourcing public jobs, any jobs, during financial crisis or otherwise wouldn't even be something considered. The new Superintendent, I would hope, before eleceted would see to it that the 7 in favor of outsourcing vote would be overturned. Also, no pay increase, in fact go into the position with a pay cut and humble yourself to publicy serve. A servant to the public is just that. A servant.

The superintendent isn't elected, she is hired by the 7 on the Board (who are elected). If you want to have a new Board majority that is more responsive to the public's concerns, there is a Board opening in November; vote to create a new Board majority and encourage others to do the same.

Why not give the public the applicants' names, like other districts do? Why not hold the meetings in the evening when working parents and school district employees can actually attend? Classic.

Just wondering if the Board plans to televise these interviews live and film them and televise them over the weekend or in evenings before a decision is made so the public, especially those who work and can't attend Friday, can view the interviews?
