The Spirit of Easter is Alive at New Bakery

The Mid-East Pastry Delight, which recently replaced Opera Pastries on Orchard Lake Road, boasts a delicious carrot cupcake.

If you're anything like me, you appreciate the signs of spring with trepidation — is this really the end of winter? Indeed, with high temperatures breaking 60 degrees accompanied by a chilly, strong wind, the weather can be confusing. Thankfully, there's no mistaking a carrot cupcake as a signifier of Easter soon to arrive — especially when that cupcake comes from the new Mid-East Pastry Delight.

Eastsiders have become familiar with owner Malek Maatouk's handmade creations at its store in Sterling Heights for many years, but that location is better known for bulk orders of a wide range of Lebanese delights including maamoul mad, ballouria, namoura and zalabia. The more recent opening in West Bloomfield at 6588 Orchard Lake Rd. (the home of the former Opera Pastries) offers perhaps what could be considered as a more traditional neighborhood bakery.

I stopped in last week and couldn't pass up this carrot cupcake, which lived up to every expectation of the Easter season and spring soon to follow (really!). For more on Mid-East Pastry Delight, especially bulk orders, visit its website at mepdelight.com.
