West Bloomfield man arrested after dust-up in JCC locker room
A shouting match between two men at the West Bloomfield Jewish Community Center Feb. 7 resulted in one arrest on a charge of misdemeanor assault and battery.
Lt. Tim Diamond said that the man reporting the incident, a 74-year-old West Bloomfield resident, was sitting in a locker room lounge chair and put his feet up on an ottoman when the suspect, who had been sitting on the ottoman, took exception.
Gary Berger, 75, of West Bloomfield, is reported to have begun verbally abusing the 74-year-old, Diamond said, and eventually spit on him, according to the report. A West Bloomfield police officer who was off-duty was within the vicinity of the incident and separated the two, Diamond added.
Berger was arraigned at 48th District Court and given bond of $4,000 or 10 percent cash surety.
Cadillac gone from driveway
A West Bloomfield resident on the 6700 block of Kennsway Ct. filed a police report Feb. 4 after the Cadillac parked in their driveway went missing overnight.
The Cadillac, a leased 2011 CTS model with about 30,000 miles, was reported taken sometime between 8 p.m. on Feb. 3 and 8:30 a.m. Feb. 4 from the home in the Hills of Chelsea Park subdivision, Diamond said. However, police could only find one set of footprints in the freshly-fallen snow going from the street to the driveway as evidence, according to the report. Diamond said that police could not find signs of forced entry and that detectives are investigating the case.
Items taken from hospital
A 27-year-old Detroit man who had been recently released from Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital was arrested Feb. 5 for taking medical supplies into his car, it was reported.
Hospital security placed the man in custody after he claimed that he had been given the medical supplies, although Diamond said it was not clear exactly what had been taken or what the value of the items were. Diamond added that the man, who was a patient in the hospital for three weeks for an unspecified condition, was brought to West Bloomfield police pending issuance of a warrant, but released due to medical issues. Police will follow-up with the man at a later date, according to Diamond.
