An officer with the Bloomfield Hills Department of Public Safety was on patrol checking on commercial businesses Saturday when he saw someone spray painting a wall at the Pulte Building at 100 Bloomfield Hills Parkway at about 4:30 p.m., reports said.
The male suspect noticed the officer, quickly picked up a backpack and tried to leave. The officer called for back up and ordered the man to stop and come back toward him. Officers identified the teen and detained him at the scene. Inside the backpack were several cans of spray paint.
Nearby, officers found a suspicious vehicle and a female teen inside who said she was a friend of the teen they detained. The vehicle belonged to the male suspect. Officers determined both teens were from West Bloomfield, and upon questioning, learned it was not the boy's first graffiti incident, reports said.
Officers contacted West Bloomfield police regarding an incident involving spray paint at the Kroger at Lone Pine and Orchard Lake roads, and both teens were taken to the Bloomfield Township Police Department for processing. They were released to their parents and the report is currently at the Oakland County prosecutor's office for review of possible charges. Police noted in the report that the girl had no direct involvement with the vandalism. The ages of the teens were not immediately available.
