More About West Bloomfield High School
West Bloomfield High School is the only high school in the West Bloomfield School District and one of two high schools in West Bloomfield.
Led by Principal Tom Shelton, the Lakers have been recognized by Newsweek as being in the top six percent of U.S. public high schools. WBHS is also a top feeder school to the University of Michigan, as well as Michigan State University, with 94 percent of graduating seniors moving on to four-year colleges and universities. Eighty percent of teachers at WBHS have Master's degrees.
In June 2009, WBHS announced the availability of the Advanced Placement International Diploma to the classes of 2011 and beyond. In the 2009-10 school year, 96 percent of ninth graders passed Algebra 1, and the Debate Team and Marching Band were each ranked number one in the state.
Christy Forhan is president of the PTO. Last year, the PTO raised $4,000 to give to the school. PTO participates in the school community process and heads several different projects to benefit the school and its students.
Lakers athletics are unparalleled in the area, with its teams having won state championships in different sports, including baseball, and many individuals going on to play at collegiate and professional levels.
