5 Reasons for Foodies to Attend the Jewish Book Fair

Speakers will share recipes and more during the annual event, held Nov. 6-17 in West Bloomfield.

The Jewish Book Fair, held Nov. 6-17 at the Jewish Community Center in West Bloomfield, offers several presentations designed especially for food lovers:

1. Weight Watchers 50th Anniversary Cookbook: 280 Delicious Recipes for Every Meal

When: Nov. 7, 11 a.m.
Who: Florine Mark, CEO of Weight Watchers Group 
What: A celebration of food for anyone who loves to eat well and eat smart. The 50th anniversary collection includes favorites that have been updated, great ideas for meals with fresh ingredients, how-to tips, and more. 

2. Zingerman’s Guide to Good Leading, Part 2

When: Nov. 7, 6 p.m.
Who: Zingerman’s Deli CEO and cofounder Ari Weinzweig
What: This second book in the “lapsed anarchist’s approach” series looks at the leadership style that has helped make Zingerman’s such a unique place to work and to eat. Tickets are $12; reserve by Nov. 1, call 248-432-5462.

3. Modern Menu: Simple, Beautiful, Kosher

When: Nov. 13, 2 p.m.
Who: Kim Kushner
What: Kim Kushner's recipes are tried and true, foolproof and beautiful. She studied at the prestigious Institute of Culinary education in Manhattan, where she excelled in the professional culinary program. Tickets are $15. Reservations required by Nov. 5, call 248-432-5492.

4. From Scratch: Inside the Food Network

When: Nov. 13, 8 p.m. 
Who: Allen Slakin
What: Behind-the-scenes story of the Food network, the business, media and cultural juggernaut that changed the way America thinks about food. Tickets for JCC members are $10, non-members $12. 

5. Grocery Makeover

When: Nov. 15, 1 p.m.
Who: Julie Feldman
What: University of Michigan graduate Julie Feldman, a registered dietician, takes readers through those bloated store aisles, helping them learn how to make the best and most healthy choices.
