Marian Teacher Studies in Ireland

Bloomfield Hills – Katherine Davis, English teacher at Marian High School, will be traveling overseas this summer to study in Galway, Ireland through Michigan State University’s study abroad program.

This will be Davis’s second summer studying for her master’s degree in Educational Technology (MAET). This summer Davis will, design, coordinate, and run a day-long educational technology conference, as well as write a research paper about learning processes, and conduct research.

The program focuses on “teaching educators how to repurpose and retool technology to fit the needs of his or her classroom.” It provides educators with the skills to “use and conquer any piece of technology,” said Davis. Studying in a place filled with rich literary and linguistic heritage has fulfilled a life-long dream for the Marian English Teacher.

Attending the summer program will prove not only an incredible opportunity for Davis, but for her students as well, as she brings her experiences and new knowledge back to the classroom at Marian. “The activities that I learned in last year’s program were some of the most popular and engaging lessons this year,” Katie said.

In the classroom, Davis has learned to “think outside of the box” and utilizes new technology in a creative way to enhance her students learning. “I love bringing resources and stories back to Marian to tell the students.”
