Halloween Decoration Trends in West Bloomfield

It's the final week before Halloween and Patch has you covered for all the new trends, information, and tips you will need to make the best of the spooky holiday.

The big day is approaching with only four more days to wait.  Patch wants to make sure you are ready.

Consumer spending on Halloween decorations are second only to spending on Christmas decorations, according to the National Retail Federation. If you are like the seven in 10 Americans planning on celebrating the holiday, you may wonder what is hot and what's not in our area.

David Piotrowski, merchandise specialist at in West Bloomfield said the trend has been for purple and orange light-emitting diode (LED) lights. The LED lights can use up to 90 percent less energy with a lifespan of 20 years. His advice? Purchase "a good set that has sealed lights, because the ones with replaceable bulbs are not too good," he said. Some of the other more popular items in the store include sequined spiders and humongous flies.

At Party City in Farmington Hills, the caution tape is almost sold out. Sales associate Mary Anne Dul said, "Everything zombie is popular this year." The store sells zombie banners, animated zombies, zombie tombstones, hanging zombies and more. Dul also said, "scene setters have increased in popularity." These large pieces of art can transform any room into a Halloween lair with a little sticky tape. One trend that is not as popular as in the past is spider webbing.

At Halloween City in West Bloomfield sales associate, Paul McIntire agreed with the increase of orange and purple lights for the holiday. He also said that strobe lights and a six-feet-tall, stand-up skeleton have both been preferred items this year.
