5 Things You Need to Know About This Week

The Westacres 75th anniversary celebration highlights the best of West Bloomfield this week.

will continue festivities to celebrate its 75th anniversary with both public and private events all weekend. A parade is open to non-residents beginning 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the corner of North Elder and Cedarbank Roads, while the Aquacade kicks off at the beach at 12 p.m.

will hold a rummage sale Thursday through Saturday at , featuring gently worn clothing for the entire family, children’s items, baby goods, toys, sporting goods, small appliances, housewares, household goods and books and tapes. Unsold items will go to the Salvation Army. Proceeds will benefit church mission trips. Thursday’s sale hours are 6-8 p.m. ($3 admission), while Friday’s sale hours are 9 a.m.-6 p.m. with all items half-off from 4-6 p.m. Saturday’s hours are 9 a.m.-2 p.m., with either a bag sale or half-off all items all day.

will host a lecture titled "Israel, Iran and Peace: Congress and the Middle East" Thursday with guest Bradley Gordon from 7:30-9 p.m. Gordon is the Director of Policy & Government Affairs at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee. 4. The weather forecast calls for hot, humid conditions all week and the likelihood of storms. The National Weather Service is expecting a high of 91 degrees on Tuesday with a chance of thunderstorms between 8 p.m.-2 a.m.  The high is expected to hover around 87 for the entire weekend, from Thursday through Sunday, with a mix of clouds and sunny skies. Wind gusts are expected to climb as high as 18 mph Wednesday. The low for the week is 64 on Wednesday.

is scheduled to offer fun at another event in the Hot Nights, Hot Music Summer Concert Series. The St. Clair Shores-based Planet D Nonet will bring concertgoers to at 7 p.m. Wednesday for their big band sound. The show is free.
