Get Out: Bleed for the Band, Meteor Shower Party, and a Bat Walk

From staying up late to watch the meteor showers to helping out the American Red Cross, there's something for everyone in and around West Bloomfield this weekend.

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend. West Bloomfield Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time. Check our picks for the activities to hit and events to attend in the area.

Where:

When: Friday at 2 p.m.

Why go: The American Red Cross is in urgent need of blood donors. The organization needs to meet blood orders for local hospitals and currently has low supplies. Today the West Bloomfield Marching Band is giving you a local opportunity to give the gift of life.

Where: in Bloomfield Hills

When: Friday at 4 p.m. - Sunday at 4 p.m.

Why go: If your family is looking for a furry feline addition, look no further.  This adoption marathon gives you an opportunity to look at two hundred homeless cats and kittens available for you to bring home.  Plus the very reasonable adoption fee includes spay/neuter, health checks, and vaccinations.

Where:

When: Friday at 11 p.m.

Why go: For over 2,000 years people have been awed by the Perseid meteor shower. This Friday will be one of the peak nights with a possiblity of seeing over 60 meteors per hour. Marshbank Park is a great place to kick back and view this beautiful display in the sky. Plus if you have any questions a naturalist will be on hand and telescopes will be provided.

Where: in Bloomfield Hills

When: Friday at 8:30 p.m.

Why go: You have the opportunity to check out and learn about the only mammals who can really fly, bats.  These nocturnal creatures become very active at twilight, so this is a perfect time to learn about their houses, habitats and feeding habits.

Where: E. L. Johnson Nature Center in Bloomfield Hills

When: Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Why go: Parents can spend some quality time with their children teaching them how to learn how to fish. The event practices the catch and release method only allowing children to feel the excitement of reeling in the "big one" while practicing conservation.  It's an opportunity to make some cherished memories as a family.
