Get Out: Waterpark Family Fest, Art Fest, and a Summer Sports Tournament

From a Michigan First Art Fest to summer sports and water fun, there's something for everyone in and around West Bloomfield this weekend.

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend. West Bloomfield Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time. Check our picks for the activities to hit and events to attend in the area.

Where: Waterford Oaks Waterpark

When: Friday at 6 p.m.

Why go: The waterpark is offering an economical way for families to have a fun time spending a summer evening together.  The Soak Station, waterslide, wave pool, spray and play toddler areas, and water playground will all be open to 9 p.m.  As if that doesn't offer enough fun, the waterpark will also have old school playground games, a puppet show, bounce house, scavenger hunt, and carnival games.  With all these activities there will be something for everyone in your family to enjoy.

Where:

When: Friday at 5:45  p.m.

Why go: Adat Shalom is hosting a Shabbat in the Park this evening.  Hopefully it is the end of your work week, and you can enjoy this day of rest in a beautiful park setting.  Enjoy socializing, playing, and praying together.  Bring a blanket and your own picnic basket to dine on, and the synagogue will bring the drinks and desserts.  The gazebo will allow this event to happen rain or shine.

Where: Lathrup Village Municipal Park, Southfield and California Rd.

When: Saturday at 10 a.m. or Sunday at 11 a.m.

Why go: Buying local is important to our economy, so why not head over to the festival that celebrates all things Michigan. Over 50 Michigan artists, from all over the state, will gather at this event to display their works and offer one-of-a-kind items for purchase.  The festival also includes a 5k fun run, live concert performances, a food court with Michigan made products, a mini-pub with Michigan brews and cooking demonstrations by local restaurants. On Sunday afternoon there will be a special kids tent sent up for make it and take it projects.

Where:

When: Saturday at 2 p.m.

Why go: The West Bloomfield Library continues its summer fun activities with a special sports gaming tournament this afternoon.  This is a great way to introduce kids in grades 3-6 to lawn games and have fun in the outdoors.  The library will have stations set up for basketball, horseshoes, miniature golf, croquet, basketball, volleyball and badminton.  The library will award prizes, but even if your child doesn't win a prize it should be fun trying.

Where: , 1099 Lone Pine Rd., Bloomfield Hills

When: Sunday at 3 p.m.

Why go: Three members of the Michigan Opera Theater, Maria Cimarelli, Mark Vondrak, and accompanist Amanda Sabelhaus will take you done memory lane performing classic songs from early  20th century Broadway and classic numbers from the masters.  The trio will feature music of George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Rodgers and Hart and many others.
