Got Hazardous Waste, West Bloomfield?

For the first time, residents may drop off unloaded weapons and ammunition at the police department as part of the Oct. 5 household hazardous waste event.

West Bloomfield Township residents have an opportunity Oct. 5 to drop off household hazardous waste, electronics and other items that shouldn't go into regular trash collection.

The household hazardous waste event takes place between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., at the West Bloomfield Civic Center, 4550 Walnut Lake Road. A complete list of items that will and will not be accepted can be found on the township's website

In a statement posted with the list, township supervisor Michele Economou Ureste notes that, "in response to recent national incidents involving gun violence", the West Bloomfield Township Police Department will, for the first time, collect unwanted firearms and ammunition, along with prescription medications.

Anyone wishing to dispose of unloaded weapons or ammunition should place them in the trunk or rear compartment of the vehicle and bring them to the parking lot in front of the police department.
