Reports: Jewish Community Center Executive Director Resigns, Financial Crisis Looms

Jew In The D reports that Mark Lit has resigned, and the Detroit Jewish News publishes a lengthy report about the West Bloomfield organization's financial woes.

An online magazine that serves the Jewish community reported Tuesday that Jewish Community Center (JCC) executive director Mark Lit has resigned "amid a financial crisis".

The JCC operates a large campus at 6600 W. Maple in West Bloomfield, offering a variety of services that range from sports leagues and a fitness center, to cultural activities, a child care center and a performing arts center. A smaller campus is located in Oak Park.

Jew in the D on its Facebook page calls the news "a solid tip" and acknowledges that there has been no official announcement of Lit's resignation. But another news organization has released an in-depth report of the Center's financial problems.

The Detroit Jewish News reported in its Jan. 30 issue, now available online to subscribers, that the Federation has provided funding to keep the JCC afloat "through mid-February", and a controller who produced inaccurate financial reports has been fired.

The report noted a Plymouth accounting firm is now handling the Center's finances and that Federation and Center officials "have begun implementing a professional leadership succession plan". They also emphasized the JCC will remain open.
