Weekend Planner: Try It Before You Buy It Classes, Bingo, and 'Arsenic and Old Lace'

It's always nice to wake up and say "Hello Friday!" You've finally made it. The weekend is here. All week long we have been counting down the days to help you plan your weekend with options of events to attend.

Where: 

When: Sunday at 12 p.m.

Why go: I imagine we all have some sort of memories of playing bingo, whether it be with your mom, grandparents, or at a local fair. Bingo has been a favorite game for years. You don't see it around as often, so grab your dabber and play when you can. On Sunday, Temple Kol Ami is offering the game of chance as a fun afternoon for the whole family. They have some great prizes to win and every child who plays will get a prize. All proceeds from Sunday's games will benefit the TKA Family Religious School.

When: Sunday at 12:45 p.m.

Why go: The 60th Annual  offers the oldest and largest Jewish book fair in the nation from November 2-13. With dozens of authors coming in locally to share their books, host discussions and share in the community the choices are overwhelming. On Sunday, Rabbi Joseph Telushkin, author of Jewish Literacy: The Most Important Things to Know About the Jewish Religion, Its People and Its History, A Code of Jewish Ethics: You Shall be Holy, A Code of Jewish Ethics: Love Your Neighbor and the new Hillel: If Not Now, When? will lead a discussion on how to be a good person in a morally-complicated world. He will also show you how to use Jewish texts to provide guidance for daily behavior. This featured program offers a little something that we all can learn from and use in our daily lives.

When: Friday or Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Why go:  Theatre Arts kicks off its season with the fall production of Arsenic and Old Lace Nov. 3, but it will run twice more this weekend. The farcical black comedy was originally written in 1939 by Joseph Kesselring and is best known through its film adaptation released in 1944. Mix a little poison, two old ladies, and a nutcase family and you get a horrifying twist of events that will lead you laughing out loud at this classic comedy tale.

When: Saturday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Why go: It's never too early to get a jump on holiday shopping or to pick out that perfect something for yourself. On Saturday, GlassAct celebrates ten years at their Winter Wonders Glass Show Holiday Sale. Here is your chance to find beautiful and unique handmade glass ornaments, sculptures, jewelry, fused glass items and more. There will also be glass demonstrations including live glass lampworking. You will have the opportunity to meet over a dozen of the artists and members who travel from as faraway as Houghton or as close as Troy. There will also be hourly raffles and refreshments available to purchase.

When: Saturday from 12-4 p.m.

Why go: Do you know what Zumba Gold is all about?  Have you ever tried Bellydancing or a Tai Chi class? The Family Aquatic Center is offering a free day of sampling some of their classes.  This is a great opportunity to try something new before you have to actually spend money on it. The Center is also offering free open swim all day for the family in their 80-degree pool. Parents and children can also get swim tested.
