Patch tells you what's happening this weekend around West Bloomfield.

It's always nice to wake up and say "Hello Friday!" You've finally made it.  The weekend is here. All week long we have been counting down the days to help you plan your weekend with options of events to attend.

Here's a recap:

When: Saturday at 10 a.m.

Why go: Did you know that the Orchard Lake St. Mary's campus was once a former Michigan Military Academy deemed the "West Point of the West?" Come out on Saturday as Dave Finney, a nationally recognized Civil War authority, gives a presentation on the Legacy of General Joseph Tarr Copeland.  Enjoy brunch while learning about General Copeland whose home, know as "the castle" later became part of the Michigan Military Academy.  Then take a guided stroll on the grounds which will highlight the Civil War era. Since Orchard Lake is just a little north of us this is a great chance to learn about the history of our area.

Where:

When: Saturday from 12-2 p.m. (first session) or 2:45-4:45 p.m. (second session)

Why go: On Saturday, West Bloomfield Parks and Recreation are hosting a fun and exciting Halloween Fest for kids. There will be costumed characters passing out goodies, a magic show, games, crafts, prizes, cider and donuts. This is a great opportunity to let your little ones enjoy all the festivities of Halloween without having to worry about the Michigan weather (which seems to rain on Halloween).

Where:

When: Sunday from 3-4 p.m. or 5-6 p.m.

Why go: Michael on Fire is bringing his rootsy, Americana music to our library on Sunday. He has been performing for over four decades all over the world. He plays a broad range of styles, everything from a blend of country and folk, to blues and rock, to acoustic and electric. His music is known for being honest and emotional and you get a chance to watch him live and for free.

Where: Main Street, Downtown Franklin

When: Saturday at 3 p.m.

Why go: Halloween is just about one week away.  Here is another chance for everyone in your family to enjoy the holiday as Main Street in Franklin transforms into Franklinstein Frenzy. Come dressed in costume to participate in the parade at 3 p.m. Enter the haunted room at Gorback Fine Photography and receive a complimentary portrait. There will also be a pumpkin decorating contest, face painting, old-fashioned bobbing for apples, and trick-or-treating. While there take a short jaunt to the  to enjoy fresh cider and donuts before the apple season disappears.

Where:

When: Saturday at 2 p.m.

Why go: Music will fill the air as West Bloomfield High School hosts a Michigan Competing Band Association event on Saturday. There will be performances by 16 other high school marching bands. Hard work and dedication will be shown as the bands battle for bragging rights. In 2008, the WBHS Marching Band became the 2008 MCBA State Champs.  Can they do it again?
