West Bloomfield Resident Leads Jewish Sports Foundation

The Foundation recently honored Hall of Fame inductees and award winners at the Berman Center for the Performing Arts in West Bloomfield.

The Michigan Jewish Sports Foundation has named Stuart Raider of West Bloomfield as the organization's new president.  

Raider took on the leadership post following the 29th Annual Michigan Jewish Hall of Fame Induction dinner, held Oct. 21. He is vice president of Raider-Dennis Agency in Farmington Hills and currently serves as secretary and treasurer of the Society of Financial Service Professional Greater Detroit.

While a member of the Jewish Community Center board, Raider received the Young Leadership Award.

The Michigan Jewish Sports Foundation recently held a ceremony at The Berman Center for the Performing Arts to celebrate its 2013 inductees, Pillars of Excellence, Foon awardee and student athletes.

Hall of Fame Class of 2013 inductees include Dan Arnold, Debbie Michelson Fuger, Martin Wolfe, Eli Zaret and Rick Zussman. The 2013 Alvin Foon Humanitarian Award went to Charlie Sanders, and the Pillars of Excellence honorees included Herb Bernstein, Ken Bertin, the late Fred Goldberg, Karen Sklar Gordon and Ed Krass. 

The Jewish News High School Female Athlete of the Year co-winners were Molly Gelb from Ann Arbor Huron High School and Jennica Lurie from East Lansing High School. The Jewish News Male Athlete of the Year is Jake Slobin, freshman at Grand Valley and a Farmington Hills Harrison High School alum. The Bill Hertz Scholarship went to University of Michigan freshman Molly Williams, who attended The Frankel Jewish Academy in West Bloomfield.
