Will West Bloomfield Repeat MI Great Artist Success?

This year's first place winner will take home $1,500 and other prizes. The contest closes Oct. 4.

Only one week remains in the entry window for this year's MI Great Artist contest, won last year by West Bloomfield quilter Deborah Hyde

Artists may submit their two-dimensional works in oil, acrylic, watercolor, ink, pastel, and collage and other formats online from Oct. 4. Photography and digital artworks are excluded from the competition.

Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson and Park West Gallery founder and CEO Albert Scaglione launched the contest last year as a quality of life initiative to identify and support up-and-coming artists in the Economic Growth Alliance (EGA) region, which includes West Bloomfield. This year, the stakes are higher.

“We hope the additional prize money will create a buzz about MI Great Artist and inspire more Michigan artists to submit their work," Patterson said.

The first-place winner takes home $1,500 and other prizes; other top artists will receive cash and other prizes.
