Andover Grads' Theater Company Presents 'Rumors' in Orchard Lake

August Theater Company will also bring awareness to The Jed Foundation during the run of the play, August 9-11.

A new Bloomfield Hills-based summer stock theater troupe will present a production of Neil Simon’s Rumors, August 9-11 at Orchard Lake Community Church, 5171 Commerce Rd., in Orchard Lake.

August Theater Company takes on Simon's tale of several affluent couples who gather in the posh suburban residence of a couple for a dinner party celebrating their hosts' tenth anniversary. They arrive to find there are no servants, the hostess is missing, and the host–the deputy mayor of New York City–has shot himself through the earlobe. Comic complications arise when they do everything possible to conceal the evening's events.

August Theater Company was founded earlier this year by a group of Andover High School graduates who wanted to create a summer stock environment for high school friends who missed performing together. The company evolved into a larger non-profit organization with a mission to inspire all people through theater.

Executive Board members are Greg Strasser and Ashley Pikula, who are now entering their sophomore year at the University of Michigan, and Harrison Kenum who studies at Vanderbilt University. All are 2012 Andover High School graduates.

Stasser said the group also supports an organization, drawing awareness to issues while entertaining audiences.

“This year we have chosen to sponsor The Jed Foundation," Stasser said. "Since our company is comprised of young men and women from ages 17-19, the issues of suicide, depression, and emotional instability amongst collegiate and high school students are ones we are very familiar with."

Rumors cast members are Harrison Kenum, Allie Silberman, Greg Strasser, Marisa Cicurel, Forrest Cao, Ashley Pikula, Mihir Kumar, Maddie Meehan and Calvin Williams. Tickets are $12, or $10 for students. Learn more at http://augusttheater.webs.com/about
