DWTS Results: Meryl Davis and Charlie White Both in Jeopardy. Who Went Home?

If you were hoping for a dance-off pitting gold medal Olympic ice dancers Meryl Davis and Charlie White in the finals of the ABC reality dance competition show, “Dancing with the Stars,” is won’t happen.

Both White and Davis were in jeopardy in Monday night’s semifinals, in which the couples danced two unlearned dances for “American Icons Week.”

Bruno Tonioli and guest judge Kenny Ortega loved the whimsical foxtrot so much that they gave it a standing ovation. Ortega proclaimed the routine “indescribably delightful.

“You started as Fred Astaire and you finished as (ballet dancing great Mikhail) Baryshnikov,” Tonioli  said.

“Brilliant! Brilliant! Brilliant!” Carrie Ann Inaba proclaimed.

“That’s right, tonight, Charlie White! End of story,” said head judge Len Goodman.

The couple earned 10s across the board, but judges gave the samba a less favorable review, with each scoring the routine at a 9 for 36 points. Their total for the evening was 76 of 80 points.

Collectively, the said the routine was lacking some of the pizazz of his foxtrot.

Davis and her professional dance partner Maks Chmerkovskiy also scored 40 out of 40 points for jive. Goodman called her “no peril Meryl” after the jive and said the dance was fantastic. Tonioli said the dance was “a 50s-inspired rock ‘n’ roll extravaganza.

The saved their highest praise for the Viennese waltz, set to country music, with the judges rewarding the performance with a standing ovation.

“What you do is incredible, I was watching the room watch you,” Inaba said. “The whole room was running into you.”

Len Goodman: “What I love is you took that right on the edge, Goodman said. “No playing safe. You went for it 100 percent.”

“You blew me away last week… power, grace, synchronization… you left nothing on the dance floor but a little bit of sweat,” Ortega said.

“Tonight it was ‘Giant’ … Elizabeth Taylor swept away in Texas,” Tonioli said.

Inaba added a personal aside: “You are fantastic and you better not go home!”

But one of Michigan’s ice dancers went home.

At the end of the show, White and Burgess were eliminated, despite two weeks of perfect scores.

“Now I can 100 percent be a cheerleader for Team Meryl,” White said of his skating partner.

Other celebrity finalists in next week’s show are actress Candace cameron Bure, paralympian Amy Purdy and “Big Time Rush” star James Maslow. They will compete Monday and the winner of the Season 18 mirror ball trophy will be announced in a live results show Tuesday.
