A group of Reel Art Detroit artists will be exhibiting art in a variety of media on Friday, September 21 from 6-9PM in the lush greenhouses of Goldner Walsh Garden and Home, 559 Orchard Lake Road, Pontiac. The event is free and open to the public.  Refreshments served. Notable Detroit area artists exhibiting include: Lynn Arbor, Robert Bielat, Deb Friedman, Stephen Magsig, Catherine Peet, Victor Pytko, S. Kay Young, and Graffiti artist Sinister who outfitted an entire episode of Detroit 1-8-7 will be doing demonstrations.

Artist Kim Fay is the curator of the show, and owner of Reel Art Detroit- a business that places art on movie and television shows that were primarily being filmed in Michigan. She spotted a gap in the industry and launched RAD April 2010. By June, RAD was working with Warner Brothers (HK3) and ABC (Detroit 1-8-7). RAD continued to rent original work to sets through summer 2011 when the slashed incentives caught up the industry. At this point RAD went digital and has worked with Necessary Roughness shooting in Atlanta. Since then the incentives have been somewhat revised and there is the possibility that films will return to Detroit. RAD continues its relationships with set decorators in LA, New Orleans and Atlanta to promote its digital service.

Following the art opening at 9PM in the back of the nursery, will be a performance by the band Thief. Blending sight and sound Thief draws from the rich psychedelia of the past while moving forward into areas uniquely their own.  Noise pop guitar and a minimalistic rhythm section mixes with vocals that are simultaneously intimate and remote. Images (created by lead vocals Jill Desandy) projected on a screen under the Southern Magnolia tree in the back of the nursery add lush visuals to the performance. Thief is:  Jill Desandy (vocals/visuals), Chris Masek (bass), Chris Morris (drums) and Robert Smith (guitar/vocals/loops). $5 cover charge for band.

Goldner Walsh is open from 9-6, Monday through Friday, 9-5 Saturday  and 11-4 Sundays. Located at 559 Orchard Lake Road, in the historic district of Pontiac. 248-332-6430.www.goldnerwalsh.com

Goldner Walsh Garden Home, established in 1955, is a full-service landscape design company, retail garden center, and floral design shop situated on 9-1/2 acres, and hosts approximately 4 art openings a year.
