Seussical at the Berman Center

A record-number of children, teens and adults auditioned for Seussical Jr. last January. The result: two amazing casts of 174 young and young-at-heart thespians. Led by The Cat in the Hat, the Sky’s The Limit troupe will take the stage at the Berman Center for six performances beginning Wednesday evening, May 23.

“I am thrilled by how our community has embraced children’s theatre,” says Lisa Muscio, founder and creative director of Sky’s The Limit Productions. Coming on the heels of sold-out performances of Joseph and The Technicolor Dreamcoat, the STL production of Seussical, Jr. will feature actors from West Bloomfield, Birmingham, Farmington Hills, Bloomfield Hills, Southfield, Novi, Milford and beyond.

Favorite Dr. Seuss characters will be brought to life in this colorful musical where you’ll meet Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie, all of the Whos of Whoville and more. The score emerges as a Seussian gumbo of musical styles, ranging from Latin to pop, swing to gospel, and R&B to funk!

Staffing Seussical, Jr. are Director Melinda Sheatzley, Producer Jim Kelly, Vocal Director Rose Randall Warner and Production Assistant Marci Bean (all of Farmington Hills), and Choreography Team Jordan Sheatzley of Farmington Hills and Rachel Hollander of West Bloomfield.

“Each production is a huge endeavor,” says Lisa “and our parents and student assistants are integral to our success.”

When the Berman Center for the Performing Arts opened last year at the Jewish Community Center in West Bloomfield, Lisa saw an “amazing opportunity” to offer her troupe the chance to perform in a professionally equipped theater. “I cannot say enough about the cooperation we have received from the JCC and the special thrill that came when Joseph and company took the stage at the Berman Center. From the first night on, it was magical.”

Tickets for Seussical, Jr. are available for May 23, 24, 30 & 31 at 7 p.m., and June 3 at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Tickets may be purchased online at theberman.org or by calling 248-661-1900.
