Great Escape: Relax to the Sounds of the Birmingham-Bloomfield Symphony Orchestra

BBSO wraps 2010-11 season with April 17 concert.

The Birmingham-Bloomfield Symphony Orchestra (BBSO) has 12 times earned the Detroit Motor City Award for “Most Outstanding Community Orchestra in Southeast Michigan,” a feat no other community orchestra has been able to best. Under the baton of Charles Greenwell, the BBSO's mission is to offer citizens of all ages the opportunity to experience quality performances featuring distinguished artists.

To that end, the BBSO has hosted four concerts this season and will host its final concert of the season at 7 p.m. April 17 at . Titled “From the New World,” the concert will feature music from or about America. Among the concert highlights, BBSO Young Artist String Competition winner Abigail Elder will perform William Walton’s Concerto for Viola and Orchestra, Mvt. 1. Other symphonies to be performed include Aaron Copland’s “Fanfare for the Common Man,” Alan Hovhaness’ “Mysterious Mountain” and Antonin Dvorak’s “From the New World.”

Tickets for the concert are $27 for adults. Admission for children under the age of 18 is free. Tickets can be purchased from the BBSO website or by calling 248-352-BBSO.
