Mozart Comes to West Bloomfield Assisted Living Community

A Detroit Symphony Orchestra quartet entertains residents at Regency Street assisted living.

A string quartet from the Detroit Symphony Orchestra performed classical selections and shared their musical knowledge Tuesday with a group of about 40 seniors at Regent Street assisted living community in West Bloomfield.

Some in the audience were Regent Street residents, others were brought in from other American House communities, public relations coordinator Kevin Kieninger said.

"We typically average a crowd of 50 to 75 people," he said.

The concert, which featured violinists Sheryl Hwangbo and Jing Zhang, Hang Su on viola, and cellist David LeDoux, was part of a series connected with a sponsorship arrangement through which the DSO brings small ensembles to American House facilities around metro Detroit. Musicians don't just perform, they also share information about composers, music and their instruments.

"There's a lot of interaction, which is big for the DSO and for us," Kieninger said.

He expects the arrangement will continue next year.
