Musician, Author Michael Feinstein Closes Out Book Fair in West Bloomfield

The author of 'The Gershwins and Me' talks about his experiences with the famous songwriting brothers Sunday.

Author and performer Michael Feinstein will appear at the Berman Center for the Perfoming Arts in West Bloomfield Sunday, closing out this year's Jewish Book Fair.

The “Ambassador of the Great American Songbook” Feinstein was just 20 years old when he got the chance of a lifetime: a job with his hero, Ira Gershwin. During their six-year partnership, the two became close friends. In The Gershwins and Me, Feinstein shares unforgettable stories and discusses the music that defined American popular song.

From “Strike Up the Band” to “Love Is Here to Stay,” each of the twelve chapters highlights one of the Gershwins’ classic songs, exploring the brothers’ lives, illuminating what the music meant to them, and telling the stories of how their iconic tunes came to life. Feinstein includes with a book a soulful collection of music on CD, his original recordings of the twelve songs.

The five-time Grammy nominee performs, records, and lectures extensively and has been awarded three honorary doctorate degrees.

Find tickets for Feinstein's 7:30 p.m. appearance, and additional information, at theberman.org or call 248-661-1900.
