Patch Users Gush Over DSO Conductor, Concert

Patch users raved after the Detroit Symphony Orchestra concert at the in West Bloomfield Thursday.

Detroit native and conducted without notes and played the violin with expertise, according to users who went for free after winning a contest. Users said afterward that it was a sight to see.

"The concert tonight was awesome! The conductor was marvelous! He used no music to read from, knew all the pieces by heart, played the violin himself flawlessly ... and is 80 years old!" wrote Jay Waldman of Farmington in an email, who entered simply by answering a question on Patch last week.

Pieces included Coriolan Overture and Symphony No. 2 (Beethoven) and Violin concerto No. 5 (Mozart).

"The concert was wonderful! Maestro Joseph Silverstein is an amazing talent and was so impressive to play from memory. What a great service to the public. Thanks Patch!" wrote Ida Aisner of Farmington Hills.

The DSO is playing a variety of venues and dates throughout the area in its Neighborhood Concert Series. More information on the shows and purchasing tickets can be found on the DSO website. 

Reader Kathy Boyd of West Bloomfield wrote that she appreciated the short trip from home.

"It was a beautiful performance … and so close to home. What a treat! It was also nice to see budding young musicians in the audience as well," Boyd wrote.
