5 Back to School Bus Tips for West Bloomfield Students

West Bloomfield Public Schools posts a handbook online to ensure parents and students know the rules of the road.

As students head to classes Tuesday, West Bloomfield Public Schools buses will be back on the road.

Here are a few safety tips in a guide to transportation for students and parents, published on the district's website:

1. Arrive at your stop early.

Students should be waiting 10 minutes before the bus is scheduled to arrive.

2. Stay safe while waiting for the bus.

Stand back from the roadway, wait in an orderly line and walk to the bus only after the door is open.

3. Look both ways before crossing in front of the bus.

Also look at the bus driver for a sign that it is safe to cross, and keep an eye out for traffic. Only cross after you've walked about 15 feet in front of the bus, so the driver can see you.

4. Make it a safe bus ride.

Stay in your seat and follow the bus driver's instructions. For a full list of minor and major offenses for which bus drivers may cite students, see the transportation handbook
