Free Stress Management Class for Kids

Henry Ford Health System’s is hosting a free program for kids and their parents/caregivers on how to manage stress.

Growing up in a home where there are chronic stresses, such as substance abuse and mental illness, can be confusing and difficult for children. Maplegrove Children's Programs, established in 1990, are fun, educational support groups that help children and teens learn about addiction, appropriate ways of expressing their feelings, safe decision-making, and how to get help. Children also learn that they are not to blame and are not alone.

“Coping with Stress” provides strategies for children, from ages 5-16, and parents/caregivers on how to effectively communicate feelings, handle peer pressure and manage conflict. The program is especially helpful for families facing various stressors such as substance abuse, mental health problems or difficult economic situations.

The program will run from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 19. Lunch will be provided.

“Coping with Stress” is free of charge, but registration is required. For more information or to register, call the Maplegrove Community Education Office in West Bloomfield at (248) 661-6170.
