West Bloomfield Firefighters Go Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness

The department is supporting firefighter Kathy McCormick, who is battling breast cancer.

West Bloomfield Township firefighters are wearing pink this month, to pay tribute to a colleague who is dealing with her second bout of breast cancer.

Kathy McCormick told Civic Center TV that her cancer was first discovered with a routine mammogram, and she urges every woman to get those exams.

Captain Dan Dawe said firefighters voted to go with the pink shirt, and "the guys took it and ran with it." In addition to the pink shirts, McCormick's badge number and a pink ribbon are displayed on each fire truck.

"I am truly blessed to be part of such a great family at the fire department," McCormick said. "I'm just awestruck by everything and honored."
