Maple’s Sweet Story 

Why go: It’s your last weekend to take a guided tour of the sugar bush, see the process of tapping the trees and boiling the sap to make maple syrup. Treat your kids to a peek behind the grocery shelves.

Where: Kensington Metropark Farm Center, 2240 West Buno Rd., Milford

When: Guided tour: 12-2:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Self-guided tour: after 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Cost: Guided tour: $3 adults, $1 seniors and children (3-12 years), younger than 3 are free

Arts & Scraps

Why go: It’s a shopper’s paradise, especially if you like doing projects with your kids or grandkids. Fill a grocery bag, choosing from more than 300 recycled industrial scraps. Or come to make things and learn in six different stations.

Where: 16135 Harper Ave., Detroit

When: Open hours: 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturdays. Arts & Scraps also offers group field trips, birthday parties and a ScrapMobile service that will come to your festival.

Cost: Free admission for shopping, $7 / bag. $3 / person admission if making things at stations or get a Museum Adventure Pass from your library for four to make things for free.

'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'

Why go:  The Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia retells Eric Carle’s books, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Little Cloud and the Mixed-Up Chameleon on stage in black light.
