New Diet Center Cuts Ribbon on Space in West Bloomfield Plaza

Owner Marla Kaminsky wants to make West Bloomfield one of the fittest communities in the country.

The space was a little tight for the crowd, but Diet Center West Bloomfield celebrated a ribbon cutting and grand opening Thursday at its location in West Bloomfield Plaza on Orchard Lake Road.

Greater West Bloomfield Chamber director Suzanne Levine and township supervisor Michele Economou Ureste welcomed owner Marla Kaminsky, who said owning the business fulfills a childhood dream.

"I've wanted my own business since I was eight years old," she said, adding she used to ride on her bike to Walnut Lake Market to buy candy, while her sister, Julie, wasn't. "I used to sell it to her at a profit. My parents called it price-gouging, but I still say it was supply and demand."

While living in Memphis, TN, where her husband was working, Kaminsky said she lost 40 pounds through the Diet Center there. "I lost the weight and I had fun," she said. "I'm super excited to get everybody healthy in the West Bloomfield area. My goals is to make us one of the fittest cities in the country, and I hope all of you will help me get there."
