West Bloomfield Dental Clinic Collects Candy, Cards for Troops

Drop off donations Nov. 1 and 2 at Orchard Maple Family Dental to support Operation Gratitude.

Orchard Maple Family Dental (OMFD) invites Metro Detroiters to share their Halloween candy with US soldiers stationed abroad during a drive for “Operation Gratitude“ in November.

Anyone who wishes to donate candy can drop it off on Nov. 1, 4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 2, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Donors will receive $1 per each donated pound of unopened candy, up to a maximum of five pounds.

“We enjoyed such a successful event launch last year, we thought it would be special to continue the tradition," said Dr. Warren Woodruff, general dentist at OMFD and office marketing director. "Most people embrace fond memories of Halloween with their parents, but many children, including those in our very own neighborhood will be thinking of their relatives serving overseas. We want to make sure they know that they are not forgotten."

Last year’s OMFD “Operation Gratitude” event attracted 48 families as well as local partners, including Noodles & Company and The UPS Store: West Bloomfield. Thanks to community donations, 240 pounds of candy were swiftly shipped to the Operation Gratitude headquarters and distributed amongst military families around the globe.

“This year, we’re looking to expand in our efforts and cross-promote with additional neighboring businesses," said Dr. Amira May Woodruff, general dentist at OMFD and event sponsorship coordinator. "We’re currently seeking a sponsors to cover the shipping costs and provide in-kind donations for families to enjoy when they stop by to drop off their candy and create cards for the soldiers."

In addition to the reward of $1 per pound of candy, visitors will receive healthy snacks, new toothbrushes, oral health tips and a prize from the toy box. Trick or treaters are welcome to bring greeting cards of their own for the soldiers or create personalized cards onsite at OMFD.
