UPDATE: 1,611 Still Without Power in Township Sunday After Storm

An estimated time of restoration of Sunday night through Monday morning was given by DTE Energy Sunday afternoon.

As West Bloomfield recovered from a short, powerful storm Saturday afternoon, 1,611 remained without power Sunday afternoon, according to DTE Energy.

The outages include the neighborhoods south of Lone Pine Road, east of Orchard Lake Road, as well as scattered houses south of Walnut Lake Road, east of Drake Road. According to the West Bloomfield Police Department, there are no street lights or roads closed as a result of the storm.

The power is expected back on between Sunday night at 11 p.m. and Monday morning at 1 a.m., according to an update around 1 p.m. on the DTE Energy outage map.

The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather outlook Sunday around 4 a.m. for Oakland County, warning of a slight chance of thunderstorms through tonight. The West Bloomfield-specific forecast calls for scattered thunderstorms before 8 p.m. with a chance of precipitation at 30 percent.

A little more than 2,000 DTE Energy customers in West Bloomfield were without power Saturday night due to the storm which shut down the Woodward Dream Cruise early, with most of the storm damage affecting Royal Oak and Berkley.

A severe thunderstorm warning issued around 5 p.m. by the National Weather Service in Detroit indicated a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing quarter-size hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph.

West Bloomfield Police said Sunday that public safety after the storm was not a concern and that that downed power lines in the township had been secured. No major incidents of crime or traffic accidents had been reported Saturday.
