5 Things to Know in West Bloomfield This Week

Five news stories and key facts to know heading into the week May 6-12 include:

1. The Michigan state Department of Natural Resources is scheduled to auction the rights to what could be oil and gas found beneath areas of Oakland County including residences on Orchard Lake, Cass Lake, and other areas in town. State officials said the event on Tuesday in Lansing may or may not lead to drilling, according to a weekend report in the Detroit Free Press.

(SEAF) has for months, with the help of other district committees as well as a hired demographics consultant, been investigating the possibility of closing or consolidating schools and/or grade levels, among other possibilities. The district will "collect community opinion on concrete scenarios" on a "one-on-one basis" at . 

3. The Bloomfield Hills Schools consolidation millage will ask voters in four West Bloomfield precincts whether or not to support a $59 million tax proposal to renovate and rebuild Andover High School. The average millage rate of 1.16 would cost taxpayers with a $300,000 home an extra $174 a year through 2039.

4. Storm clouds on Monday and Tuesday are expect to dissipate by the end of the week in favor of sunny skies. According to the National Weather Service, the high for the week will top out at 70 degrees on Tuesday before dipping down to the early-to-mid-60s by later in the week. The low temperature tops out at 56 degrees Monday night before dropping as low as 42 degrees Thursday night.
