5 Things to Know This Week in West Bloomfield

The holiday season and charity benefits highlight the local news this week.

Five local stories to keep an eye on Dec. 9-15:

1. Hanukkah continues through Dec. 16. Hanukkah commemorates the victory of the Jews over Syrian-Greek invaders in 164 BCE (Before Common Era). Hanukkah (Hebrew for dedicate) refers to the rededication of second Jewish Temple in Jerusalem and is celebrated by lighting one additional candle in a candelabrum, called a menorah for eight days.

2. Enjoy Chanukah Wonderland at Orchard Mall Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Organizers will offer an all-new Chanukah Lights. Warm up with the festive tunes of the Kidz Klez Band of Michigan and their twenty-piece band and eat hot soups, latkes, donuts and cider. Enjoy an array of crafts for the kids and the lighting ceremony of a 12-ft. menorah.

If this sounds like your house, upload a photo or video of your home to our contest page from Nov. 26 to Dec. 16.
