West Bloomfield mother of nine Laura "Honey" Solomon blogged this week on the subject of those living in the self-described "affluent" community of West Bloomfield with less to their name than many others. "Honey" said that even as finances grow tight, she'd never want to be in anyone else's shoes.

We all have something. Remember, there will always be people with more than you and less than you. And things are not always what they seem. So while I use to plan and attend my own pity party, I have come to understand that no one is exempt from heartache, disappointment and pain. And that's okay.

"Slow cooker mom" Hope Comerford said that although it may have taken awhile, she finally has a taste for country ribs. Not a moment too soon, she's come up with a great recipe to merge the meaty flavor of country ribs with soy sauce, sesame seeds, and other Asian flavors.

These ribs were SO incredibly easy to assemble.  They are perfect for any busy parent or professional.  You'll love the ease of putting these in before you leave for work in the morning and coming home to an amazingly cooked meal!  Oh, and your house will smell amazing too!

West Bloomfield native and "Love Doctor," Terri Orbuch, blogged this weekend after a very thoughtful Valentine's Day gift from a student she teaches at Oakland University. She wrote about ways in which we can reconnect with acquaintances in our lives.

For some reason, many of us act as if we have a finite supply of kindness, and we "save" it for our partner, family, and closest friends. But the reality is that on a daily basis, we are more likely to spend time interacting with acquaintances -- the bus driver, the doorman, the bank teller, the custodian, the barista, our coworkers -- than with people who are closest to our heart. It's worth putting some effort into strengthening connections with acquaintances.

Alexis Shull from the Oakland County Pet Adoption Center (a division of animal control) celebrated her shelter dog Rylee's first birthday with a wish for all dog owners.

Before I started at OPAC, I didn’t understand the actual definition of no-kill, or even what save rate percentages really represent. It’s very easy to get caught up in rumors and hearsay, but that is not helping any more animals find homes. In honor of Rylee’s birthday, I’m asking everyone to take a second and really evaluate their approach towards animal welfare. Reach out to a shelter or rescue and see how you can help.
