Charlotte voters to receive letters explaining what happened; West Bloomfield Clerk says that ballots could not be processed.

Clerks are working together to deal with absentee ballot voters in Charlotte who accidentally received return envelopes with West Bloomfield Town Hall addressed on them.

Charlotte Clerk Michelle King said that an unknown portion of 505 absentee ballots were mailed out by mistake last week and that officials realized the error over the weekend.

West Bloomfield Clerk Cathy Shaughnessy said that she was contacted and will mail any ballots received back to Charlotte.

King added that all of the 505 absentee ballot voters will be contacted through the mail, to explain the error and provide an adhesive label with the correct address printed on it.

"It would be impossible for us to process these ballots even if we tried," Shaughnessy said.
